Rue Sparks is a composite of neurosis and nonsense held together by duct tape and sheer stubbornness
They received a degree in Illustration & Interactive Design at Kendall College of Art & Design in 2010. They began working in-house with ad agencies while moonlighting as an adjunct professor of digital media.
After developing autoimmune and neurological issues due in part to a Chiari Malformation restricting their ability to create art, they pivoted to writing as a creative outlet. Their late wife left them with a love for speculative fiction, ultimately leading to their work as an indie author and advocate for indie publishing.
Now they create visual and written work that honors their history, those they’ve loved, and everything they’ve lost. They live at the conjunction of queer, disabled, and neurodivergent identities, and so within everything they make you will find the themes of found family, grief, queerness, and mental health.
They live in a rural Michigan town surrounded by forest on all sides so that they can opt out of humanity at will.
